Every year Canadian families buy 40 to 50 different kinds of flammable, corrosive, and toxic cleaners, pesticides, paints and other products. Thrown in the garbage or dumped down the drain, these materials can poison our lakes, rivers and groundwater supplies.
The Township of Algonquin Highlands hosts Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) collection events each year, between the May and October. With the exception of a few items, household hazardous waste materials can only be disposed of at HHW events. There is no charge for household hazardous waste brought to an HHW event.

2024 Algonquin Highlands HHW events:
Saturday, August 24, 1 pm to 5 pm - Oxtongue Lake Landfill
Saturday, September 14, 1 pm to 5 pm - Dorset Transfer Station
Saturday, October 12, 10 am to 2 pm - Maple Lake Landfill
The Township is reviewing how HHW events are conducted and seeking feedback from residents. Please take a few minutes to fill out the following survey. Your participation is greatly appreciated.
